He ran away on his horse, promising his lady to return and take her with him. While away, he went through periods of great turmoil, through bad weather coupled with thunderstorms and lightning. One such day, he discovered a rare diamond after one of the lightning strikes. The sediments had moved, exposing the diamond underneath. It shined so brightly that it reminded him of his lover.
He took the diamond and he planned to exchange the diamond for gold coins so that, he and his lover could live happily ever after.
Antoine planned with his lover to elope from the land of King Louis. However, when he got back to the King’s territory, the King’s men tracked him and struck him on the back. He continued riding and hid in the forests to wait for the night. He reached his lover in the dark so that nobody saw her. The wounds had become very fatal after tarrying long in the dark with no medical attention. He gifted his lover the diamond and died in her arms. She disappeared into thin air with the diamond.
History made us understand that nobody ever found Antoine’s lover. King Louis and Queen Odette could never lay their hands on either of them. The diamond made its way through history. This legend enlightened the value of diamonds to professing love. Antoine changed the purpose of this shining jewel forever.
